A complaint filed with Gov. Tony Evers (D) seeks the removal of Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm who approved the low bail for the alleged Waukesha parade killer Darrell Brooks. “The devastation resulting from Chisholm’s dereliction of duty to protect the public has reached outside the borders of Milwaukee County,” the complaint reportedly says.
The group has identified themselves as Milwaukee County taxpayers and one of the signers names is Orville Seymer, who is reportedly affiliated with a group called Citizens for Responsible Government.
As reported by The Wisconsin Daily Star, “Brooks had just been released days prior to the mass murder on a $1,000 bail following charges of domestic abuse and jumping bail.
Wisconsin State Senate President Chris Kapenga (R-Delafield) released a statement about a different letter, sent by Wisconsin lawmakers earlier on in the month. Kapenga said that there was “a bipartisan and unanimous vote by the Joint Committee on Employment Relations to prevent the Milwaukee County District Attorney from receiving a wage increase in light of his failed policies that led to the Waukesha Christmas parade tragedy.”
According to the release from Kapenga, one out of every five homicide suspects within Milwaukee County were out on bail from another crime.
Kapenga said, “The district attorney needs to own every one of these decisions to place the rights of criminals above the rights of victims. It’s time for accountability. The Waukesha County legislative delegation sent a letter to Governor Evers asking him to fire Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm. It’s time for the Governor to do his job as well.”
The Associated Press reported that, “the governor can only take action following an investigation if the district attorney is found to be guilty of ‘inefficiency, neglect of duty, official misconduct or malfeasance in office.’”
Evers’ office has said that he has not had time to review the complaints yet, so no actions have been taken.
